let's pack a picnic no. 2: the work lunch
it's friday! part two of our alfresco dining series takes us to the nearest park bench for a little midday r&r
April 19, 2013Column: deliberate polish
today a gingham bag is our nod to picnics—the leelee's also smartly structured, so it has an office-appropriate sensibility. we paired it with a demure navy fit-and-flare dress accented with a pop of color. and we slipped off our bright pink gwens for a pair in silver (we love these shoes. a lot.). that touch of metallic is luxe, yet understated—and a perfect accent to balance out a wrist full of colorful bangles.
we like to use the lunch hour to explore the neighborhood (even if that means just walking down a different block).
swing by your favorite old-fashioned deli that still wraps sandwiches in printed wax paper (we’ve got a soft spot for presentation) and see if you can score a few extra sheets along with your order—it’ll look lovely and help keep your dress debris-free.
a savory sandwich of apple and brie on crusty ciabatta is refreshing and filling; wash it down with a fresh grapefruit soda. and for desert: a homemade raspberry cream parfait, layered up in a little mason jar, that we made the night before. we suggest keeping an extra one in the office kitchen for a 4pm snack...
just as important as lunch is your lunchtime read. and since you never know who could walk by…your boss, your colleagues, your subway crush…so read to impress. more than a few of us at the office are reading sheryl sandberg’s inspiring book, lean in, which we recommend for an ambition boost.
